08.Feb.2009 Interview at metalliville. com

First of all "HI" to everybody and thanks for your invite!
We love all 70's and 80's rock and hard rock  and we grew up with bands such as Rolling Stones, Eagles, Whitesnake, Deep purple, Ac Dc, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi... so it's easy: we just play what we feel and what we like!
Why did you decide to sign to Perris Records & hows it all going so far?
We sent out a few promos and in two weeks' time we had six contract offers, Tom from Perris Records was one of them, he's great and we're happy to work with him 'cuz he believes in us.
What's your part of Europe like for Rock & Metal?....

We can talk about Italy, here there's a poor musical culture and the audience seems to prefer the usual cover bands to new and original music.  It isn't easy for bands to play their own music live.

......

I understand that your name came as a joke as you had a vocalist called Liz and you played hard-rock - what were the reasons for naming the band after her?
......

She's LIZA like Liza Minnelli...(laugh), anyway..We thought it was a good idea and we kept it...
......

Why did Liza leave and what is she up to now?....

...

She had a baby. Now I think she's a full-time mom!
 ....

What have been the most memorable places you have played so far and for what reasons?
 ....

Well, the CD release party with White Lion and Mad Max in Bologna was great, even though the gig with Eric Martin in a small club was equally
exciting.....

Where did the idea for the cover for that album come?

First, we took pictures of a model (a good friend of ours). They were good, but we didn't get the flavour we were looking for, so we just came up with another idea that included a sexy girl and a bunch of lizards! Perfect!

Who is the headless subject on the front and what's their head and face look like ?- lol

  She's a beautiful brunette...lol
So how long did it take to get the reptiles to pose in the right position or have they been super-imposed with the joys of technology? ....

...

This is a secret! (-: but no, it wasn't the joys of technology!

How long did it take to record the album and what were the most memorable times during the process?
......

It took us 2 years..it was hard 'n' heavy, but we're so satisfied! Every lil' minute we spent together was amazing, expecially the Mix and Master with our
good friend Alex Del Vecchio!!

  ....

...

What band(s) have you been compared to and hows it make you feel?....

Like all bands, we don't really like to be tagged, even though it's virtually impossible not to be. But usually people say we reminde them of Bon Jovi, Europe, Deep Purple or Gotthard.
What were the highlights of supporting Eric Martin & Twin Dragons and how did the support slot come to be?....

...

It was an amazing dream come true. We're all great fans of Eric and Mr. Big and he's a great guy!....

...

What are favourite songs on the album and what influenced them?
  ....

Songs are influenced by many things, true stories or funny things...We can't choose, we lov'em all !!
Why you decide on doing that great cover of Eagles 'Life In The Fast Lane'?
Have they heard it and what did they say to it?

We love Eagles and this cover was never released by a hard rock band, so we tried our best to do something good with it.
What gigs are you looking forward to doing in the future and what are your plans for UK gigs either as headliners or support?
We're planning some gigs in Europe and we would love to play in Uk!
Maybe you could lend a hand??? (-:
What do guys do when not busy with the band and what are your hobbies and interests?....

...

ehh..mmm...got to tell you? lol ...joking...we like to travel, ride our custom motorbikes, have rock 'n' roll parties and sleep!

What are you most pleased about so far as both individuals and as a band?

That people like our music and support us!....

...

Thanks to you and to your readers and don't forget to check out our web
sites!....

08.Feb.2009 Interview at FIREWORKS MAGAZINE !
From Italy comes LIZHARD who have just had their debut CD released by Perris Record. I caught up with bassist Ze to find out more about the band, whom I must say I enjoy very much.
Lizhard are Ricky Lecchini, on drums, Luke Marsilio, the captivating voice of the band and, last but not least, Paul Mainetti on guitars.
'This is our first album! It came out just like that! I wrote the songs and then we arranged them together,' explains Ze. 'We sent out a few promos and in two weeks time we had six contracts offers. Tom from Perris Records was one of them, and he's great!! At this point we figured that maybe our work wasn't so bad after all! This album is like a test for us and we must admit that the feedback we've been getting so far is encouraging!'
Recorded in their home studio and mastered and mixed at Solid Groove studios with co-producer Alessandro Del Vecchio (Glenn Hughes) the album has been gaining a healthy response with good reviews. But it's live where the band is at home. 'We have been on the road with some great bands such as White Lion and Soul Doctor,' he enthuses. 'We must say that in front of an audience that doesn't know us, the response is really good and stimulating. For that matter, a stage is like home for us and we love to pass this energy through to our audience!'
Lizhard will continue to promote the CD with various European shows during 2009. They are already writing new material for the next album. 'We're working on new songs for the next release, keeping in mind all the feedback we're receiving from the press, friends and fans to get better results without losing our own identity! Thanks very much to you and to all the Fireworks readers!'

Interview with Ze at METAL HERO (Greece) 1. Brand new album and my first question goes already one step forward. What's next?

First of all "HI" to everybody and thanks for your invite! While promoting  this album, we're already working on the next one and we hope to release it by the end of 2009.

...
..2. Which were your basicinfluences (in life and music) while recording this album and any music in general?
...
Oh..this is a simple question (laugh)...love, sex, rock 'n' roll, parties, motorbikes...and as far as music is concerned we especially love all 70's and 80's rock and hard rock.
...
What are your favorite artists/bands?
...
Well,  the most important for us are Rolling Stones,Eagles, Whitesnake, Deep purple, Ac Dc, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi...and..oh...so many more!
...
3. How is the metal/rock scene nowadays in your country?  Do you keep up
with the underground scene? Any bands we should check on?

In the last few years, in Italy, many bands have emerged, but the big problem is the live shows scenario.  There's a poor musical culture and the audience seems to prefer the usual cover bands to new and original music.  It isn't easy for bands to play their ownmusic live.

Greek Metal. Does it ring a bell, or is it just Greek to you?

Greek Metal  is a big reality even if we don't know it very well. Most of all, we know  Greek epic bands, not so much the hard rock ones, except for Firewind and a few others. Any suggestions?

..4. Music, image or both?
...
Music and....Music ...even if image is always important! Luckily, we' re all sexy and cute! (laugh)

...
..5. Music or lyrics? Which are your basic lyric themes?
...
Lyrics are important to complete music. It's like when you put a lovely dress on a sexy woman!
In our songs we talk about love, girls, having fun and rock 'n' roll, as I told you before...buying our album you get a complete booklet with all the lyrics! (-:

...
..6. Any chance to see you playing live over here in Greece?
...
We hope so!! Help us find some gigs and we 'd love to come to Greece,  we're so close!

...
..7. Please leave a message to our readers
...
Thanks to you and to your readers for this nice talk! Thanks for the support and don't forget to check out our websites www.lizhard.com and www.myspace.com/lizhardband!

The Italians LIZHARD have originally formed in 1995, but they kicked off as a cover band back then, playing songs from their favourite and most beloved hard rock bands. However, recently they've decided to move to the next level and start writing their own material which resulted in the release of their self titled debut that saw the light of day a few months ago. The end result is simply stunning and I have to say we are lucky they changed their mind and wrote their own tunes! These guys have an excellent feel for nice hooks, energetic sing along choruses and uplifting songs! Their sleaze hard rock sound is being infused by a great deal of blues elements something that gives more edge to the songs, making them sound dirtier and catchier. Some melodies and riffs will definitely stick to your mind from the very first time and generally the power and dynamics of this album will take you along! The band members prove to be real craftsmen offering us both sweet melodies and beautiful solos with uptempo rhythms and all this is topped by an amazing vocalist! Luke Marsilio is definitely a charesmatic singer who elevates the end result aces high with his emotive performance! This is an album that all the hard rock fans should check out!

Comments: There are bands influenced by those ‘80s Hair Metal days yet combine them with a more mainstream rock sound — bands like Babylon Bombs, Supaground, or EndeverafteR — and then there are bands who play like it’s still the ‘80s, and ask you to shove any nuance of Modern Rock into your pie-hole. Italy’s Lizhard joins the latter group, and their new self-titled release sounds EXACTLY like something released on or around the times L.A. Guns, Firehouse, and most specifically, Europe, was bringing Hair Metal to its greatest prominence. They shy away from being a modern band so much, their one cover is actually the Eagles’ hit “Life in the Fast Lane.” Their sophomore effort (and first in English, the debut sung in Italian) begins with “Rock ‘n’ Roll is Back,” and they are right. Music in this format, anyway, hasn’t been all the way back for quite a while. There is a renaissance movement, but few of those bands are recording NEW music. So you can see them at festivals playing hits 20+ years old, but is their new music worthy? Lizhard’s singer Luke Marsilio vocals offer the same timbre of Europe’s Joey Tempest, a clean, throaty, rich and melodic delivery … although Marsilio sometimes puts an edge to his voice. Guitarist Paul Mainetti rips into a heated solo, just like something you’d hear Dave Meniketti or even Warren DeMartini play. “Devil’s Highway” is a chugging composition, with bass and drums leading the charge. No matter how many times you hear a band sing lines like, “gonna be back down on your knees,” it never gets old … well, from the male perspective. The chorus is simple, effective, loud, and the backing vocals lift the song to a more powerful arena-like rocker. When you hit, “Let the Good Times Rock,” you may just be wondering if this is Europe again, especially since they wrote “Let the Good Times Roll.” It’s somewhat funny that an Italian’s accent would remind you of a Swedish singer, but it’s still palpable. Actually, when Marsilio extends his vocal sneer, he sings a bit nasally, like early Don Dokken. Anyway, throw in all those bands with Lizhard’s uncompromising style, and yes, this is one of the best tracks on the CD. The first real radio hit comes on “I Cry for You.” It’s an acoustic composition, with Marsilio’s vocals way up front in the mix, and he doesn’t flinch. Bands like White Lion, Alias, Giant, Mr. Big and many others ruled the ‘80’s airwaves with semi-ballads along this line. It’d be sort of an insult to call this “formulaic,” because it’s really not a slam or negative in any sense. They simply play the kind of music that fostered platinum sales back in the day. So what if many of them sounded similar; the point is, they also sounded good. The aforementioned cover, “Life in the Fast Lane,” isn’t really a practical choice. Musically, they plunge in headfirst and pull it off, but the vocals aren’t quite up to snuff. They seem awkward in timing, and you can’t compete with the Eagles vocal harmonies, so don’t try. In the end, it’s fun, but doesn’t add a lot to the release. Their next ballad is “Angel,” and it’s even better than “I Cry for You.” It’s a sheer Power Ballad, one of those “Don’t Close Your Eyes” from Kix type soaring ballads, and it’ll get you swaying. This time, the backing melodies lift up the entire song, the chorus is stellar, and it’s just another worthy recording. The release ends with “Diamond,” and yes, it’s another acoustic song, this time without anything except Marsilio singing and playing guitar himself. If you remember when Cinderella and Britny Fox decided to forgo their respective singer’s scratchy falsetto vocals and embrace a more bluesy, harmonica-laden style, that’s what “Diamond” is. The difference, of course, is that Marsilio never screeches and is a naturally competent singer, without “tricking” the listener. You can tell they are influenced by Mr. Big from this one. Lizhard doesn’t fool around. They play straight ahead Hard Rock music that seriously could have contended in 1988. Whether that translates to massive sales today, only time will tell, but this is one superior release.

Finally an Italian band that can actually entertain me!! I always thought that country was absolutely hopeless when it came to rock music. Their instrumental guitarists play some over-complicated acid-fusion-jazz-rock, their rock musicians look like accountants and play like that, too; and they are all totally un-cool… and no, Joe Satriani and Freddy Curci do not count here. Neither does Madonna. :)
And out of the total nihility comes a band from Milan (at least they have Beckham now, ya see? Italy is not totally hopeless) and they blow me away. If anybody remembers the band Skin, well Lizhard sounds a lot like them. If I were to stretch it even further I'd mention Tattoo Rodeo, too but that's a bit too flattery as they were one of my all time favorites. Anyway Lizhard plays catchy hard rock with cool melodies, rough riffs, and stomping rhythm section grooves. It's simple meat and potato hard rock but very good at that (sorry I should have said margherita pizza hard rock or something authentic like that…).
And unlike most of the Perris bands there is absolutely no problem with the sound here. Probably that is due to Alessandro Del Vecchio's influence as co-producer, mixer and masterer. [See my review of the other Perris band this week for the sake of comparison.] The band sounds tight, the guitars, the vocals all sound thick, the mix is balanced and the whole thing simply got balls if you know what I mean. Highly unusual from a country of posing football players with as much grease in their hair as Travolta in his glory days. All in all this is a damn good album for all you good ole hard rock fans out there.

"I Cry For You" ist dann die erste von insgesamt drei
schon irgendwie moderner.

Με μία πρώτη ματιά, βλέποντας τίτλους όπως το “Bad To The Bone” και το “Angel”, νομίζει κανείς οτι ο δίσκος αποτελείται αποκλειστικά από διασκευές, όμως η μόνη διασκευή που περιέχεται είναι το “Life In The Fast Lane” των Eagles και είναι αρκετά καλή.

Lizhard is an Italian Band which was created in 1995; it is a quartet that among other things, as it appears from their CV, they have opened in their country for famous musicians such as Eric Martin and White Lion.
Their music is a combination of hard rock & sleaze, based on classic rock while most of the songs are based in the pentatonic scale. Most of the tracks were written in mid tempo with catchy couplets, while additionally we can recognize a “vintage” taste. The vocals are clear but they don’t seem to have the “attitude” that is needed for the specific style of hard rock. The production has achieved the vintage sound (of the 80’s-90’s) but in my opinion the bass needed something different, in order to fill the songs with better results, therefore the result is not the desired in general, although we must say that the performing is accurate.
I believe that Lizhard have good elements and potentials as a band and they convince the listener for their capabilities, but they have to try harder if they want to succeed in the music stardom. First of all, they must believe themselves in their music, additionally they need a little more work in the sector of lyrics; I’d say they need to start performing “like there is no tomorrow”.

Next up is LIZHARD with their same titled debut CD. Featuring a very good lead singer, this Italian band's first CD 'Lizhard' was co-produced, mixed and mastered by Alessandro Del Vecchio, a musician known worldwide for his collaborations with acts like EDGE OF FOREVER, GLENN HUGHES, JEFF SCOTT SOTO, AXE, etc. etc. LIZHARD is playing Melodic Hardrock, a bit raw and groovy, very guitar orientated, but in a good way, as the guitarsound and style is rather excellent. Think of modern day EUROPE doing something more pure Melodic Hardrock orientated, just listen to the catchy uptempo MHR songs “My wild side” and “Let the good times roll”, which are both not far removed from what we have heard on this year's albums By H.E.A.T. and ECLIPSE or WIG WAM/GOTTHARD for that matter and the semi-ballad “I cry for you” which sounds like a cross between FAIR WARNING and MR. BIG. However, most of the time it is a little less melodic and perhaps mostly recommended to fans of groovy big punching sounding Melodic Hardrock like WHITESNAKE meets EUROPE meets MR. BIG...

First thing that went through my mind when first listening to Lizhard's material on this mp3-disc was “They from Germany, or what?”. “What” turned out to be Italy...which would've been my second thought, goin' on singer Luke Marsilio's somewhat typical vocal deflections (ain't thàt a complicated way of explaining that the man's geographical origins come through in his voice?)! Not ever song on this album is an original song though, because “Life In The Fast Lane” was originally a song by The Eagles! With their simple line-up, each and every instrument is important, but each gets its moment to shine (of course the guitarist comes to the fore a little more due to his solos)! Luckily, Marsilio's lead is well backed in harmonic way by the other guys, which makes me tone dosn my previous remark about his somewhat heady and accented vocal style. To listen to 30-second samples from each and every song on the album (plus three off the EP), surf to the media section of the band's own website lizhard.com; for full-length version of five out of the 10 songs (plus the title track of the EP) go to myspace.com/lizhardband. At the end of the day, the lead vocals dó cost the band points in the rating in my book...but I'm sure the album will do well in both Italy and Switzerland...and why not Germany as well. Individual rating: 83/100

Originally formed as a “covers” band back in 1995, it didn't take long for this Italy-based foursome to realize their true calling in creating their own original music. Now composed of drummer Ricky Lecchini, bassist Luca “Ze” Moroni, guitarist Paul Mainetti and lead vocalist Luke Marsilio, LIZHARD are poised to take their place in the European hard-rock scene. I have to be honest here, when I first took a look at the CD jacket with song titles like “Angel,” “Bad To The Bone,” and “I Cry For You” I thought it was going to be an all covers album. But to my surprise, while some of the song titles themselves are far from original... the music and songs have their own unique quality. What I really like about this band is their ability to blend their classic rock sound with some cool, bluesy grooves and guitar riffs but it's lead vocalist Luke Marsilio who really steals the spot light here... almost sounding like a cross between Joey Tempest with a little Don Dokken thrown in for good measure. Nowhere is this more apparent than on hard rockers like “Let The Good Times Roll,” “My Wild Side” and “Devil's Highway.” While the album contains it's fair share of edgy, hard rock tunes, I found myself more drawn to the acoustic driven tracks like the ballady “Diamond,” “Angel” (another stand-out ballad with a nice, soothing arrangement complimented by a powerful chorus and some harmonica accents) and my absolute favorite track on the CD “I Cry For You” which will find you having flashbacks of all those great, late-80's power ballads ala bands like EUROPE, FIREHOUSE or POISON. The song title may be the same, but this ain't George Thorogood performing on the hard-hitting “Bad To The Bone” but I did mention that these guys “did” start off as a covers band! So I wasn't surprised to hear at least one on the CD as LIZHARD takes their crack at the EAGLES' classic “Life In The Fast Lane.” While preserving the unmistakable riffs and chords of Walsh and Frey, LIZHARD adds a harsher, edgier groove to this EAGLES favorite and end up creating their own unique rendition of this timeless hit. Perris Records have themselves another winner in the new s/t LIZAHARD release. Fans of that edgy, hard-rock sound will appreciate the raw, in-your-face rockers while even those fans of AOR/ Melodic Rock can find themselves some real gems when the band takes a walk over to their lighter side. A good album all around which has a little bit of everything to satisfy the most finicky of appetites.

Lizhard is an Italian melodic hard rock band that was founded by Luca Moroni (b) and Ricky Lecchini (d) in 1995. Originally operating as a cover band, they gigged a lot in the north of Italy as well as in nearby Switzerland. Having won enough sympathy from the crowds, they thought the time was ripe to take the band a step further and so they started writing material of their own. Exactly ten years after their formation, a first EP saw the light of day. Titled “Sexy Lolita” and entirely sung in Italian, it was a start, but the guys quickly recognized that more was needed to conquer the (international) market. With new guitarist Paul Mainetti on board, Lizhard decided to go back to their pure, hard rock 'n' roll style of olden times. Recovering lost ground, Luca Moroni started writing material, that was arranged in such a way that it captured the spirit of the 80s and 90s. It was in June of this year that the recordings for their self-titled debut album were rounded off. Co-produced by Alessandro Del Vecchio (Axe, Edge Of Forever, Moonstone Project) and released by Amercan label Perris Records, it's a nice effort, featuring some interesting songs, such as the Dokken-esque “Let The Good Times Roll”, the ballad “I Cry For You” and the Eagles cover “Life In The Fast Lane”. Pluspoints are the lead and harmony vocals and the overall execution, which is rather simple but effective. Of course the material sounds a little cliché'd, but as long as it's brought with as much enthusiasm and fun as with these Italians, I couldn't care less. If only I could have been one of the lizards on the front cover ...

There are some people I know who would like to pretend the musical clock stopped in 1991, and Italian band Lizhard have made an album for exactly those people. Some of the track titles give the game away, 'Rock and Roll Is Back', 'Let The Good Times Roll', 'Let's Party'. This an album of unashamed, good-time, hard rock'n'roll, nothing more, nothing less, and, refreshingly, the band clearly have no pretensions to be anything other than that, and good on them. Let's get something out of the way before we move on to the music: the band name. When I saw it, I thought it was a pretty poor effort, and although I haven't changed my opinion, at least we know there's a story behind it. For the record, the band used to be called 'LEGO' (I have no comment to make!) but when they rightly wanted to change their name, bassist Luca Moroni conjured up a pun between the ex-singer's name, Liza and the type of music they play, hard rock. Hence Lizhard. All clear now? Good, let's move on. Although the band's roots are firmly planted in the 80s hard rock scene, and they're not afraid to wear their influences on their respective sleeves, that's not to say they sound dated or haven't taken in any more modern influences. Opener 'Rock And Roll Is Back' wouldn't sound out of place on a Buckcherry album and although much of the rest of the album is pretty straightforward melodic hard rock, it's no less enjoyable for that. The only quibble I do have is that the album seems very short, and although there are ten tracks on the album, the last one is a brief acoustic love song. It's not out of place on the album, but it hardly makes for a big finish. And yes, 'Life In The Fast Lane' is an Eagles cover, but credit to the band for being able to put their own stamp on such a familiar song; although having said that, the question of bands including covers on studio albums is never going to go away. The cover version and the anticlimactic acoustic finish also emphasise that this is also a comparatively short album. which is a shame. I did enjoy Lizhard's own songs, they seem to have good ideas and good songs. I actually found myself wishing the album was a bit longer, and that can only be a good thing. A promising debut then, so here's hoping they can build on it in the future.

Life In The Fast Lane”. Consigliatissimi.
